100 years later, we now have a video of a giant squid living: Watch now
The giant squid was identified and named 100 years ago, but before this, humans have never seen them actually swimming in their natural habitat.
According to Schmidt Ocean InstituteSubastian, a remotely controlled vehicle deployed from a research vessel at the laboratory called Falkor (Too), filmed footage of the boy’s giant squid on March 9th. It occurred near South Sandwich Island in the South Atlantic, about 430 miles southeast of South Georgia.
Such a discovery is a big deal, but it’s a bit cute as it’s not just a huge squid. It’s a baby.

The boy squid looks like it’s made of glass. Its transparent body flaunts its internal organs, and the slow movement of its orange tentacles draws attention to its shining eyes.
Scientists observed two curved hooks into a club on the edge of the squid’s long tentacle. There are also hooks in the middle of the eight arms. This is an essential feature of a giant squid.
Because it’s a boy, he still has a transparent body resembling a creature known as a glass squid. Baby squid loses its transparency as they age.
The video was filmed at a depth of 1,968 feet, with the boy’s squid being almost a foot long. The grown giant squid grows to an estimated 7 feet long and weighs up to 1,110 pounds, making it the heaviest invertebrate on the planet.
We don’t know much about how giant squids live, as they are difficult to observe in their natural habitats. Scientists discovered them in the stomach Sperm whaleso getting videos in the deep sea is a major development. The giant squid is still a mystery, but it’s a little less now.
