Florida officials recently announced that they are building off-grid facilities to house immigrants and customs enforcement (ICE) detainees in the heart of the state’s “crocodile alley.”
According to Florida attorney General James Usmere, the 30-square-mile facility called the Miami-Dade/Collier Training Facility, home to the “virtually abandoned airport,” home to the “virtually abandoned airport,” will soon be the 1,000-bed facility location.

Uthmeier said the location presents “efficient and low-cost opportunities to build temporary detention facilities.”
“(() If people leave, they don’t wait that long for them except for crocodiles and pythons,” he said. “We don’t go anywhere. There’s nowhere to hide.”
Uthmeier said the project could be completed quickly in just 30-60 days from the start of construction. New York Times.
The report says the facility will cost the state around $450 million a year, but could at least be refunded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The move has been announced as the Trump administration continues to intensify deportation, searching for a place where detainees can stay during the process.
One option is infamous Guantanamo Bay Cuban prisons, administrations are trying to fill 30,000 beds with illegal immigrants.
Last month, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller confirmed that the Trump administration’s goal is to arrest 3,000 illegal immigrants every day.
