Scotty Scheffler couldn’t protect him Masters This year’s title is Augusta, but the PGA Tour star still managed to make headlines.

Schaeffler’s nasty interactions Rory McIlroyinside Butler Cabin, many golf fans were stumped after McIlroy completed a career slam in a playoff victory against Justin Rose on Sunday.

As the latest winner, it was Scheffler’s job to help put McIlroy in the coveted green jacket. However, fans were unable to notic for Scheffler’s QuickX as soon as McIlroy placed his arm on his jacket.

Advances this week’s RBC heritage, Schaeffler provided insight into the moment, explaining that he was essentially trying to give McIlroy his moment.

“That moment – it was a very emotional day for him. I tried to get a bit out of the way. I basically tried to put on my jacket without embarrassing him or myself,” Schaeffler, who defends his title with the RBC legacy, told reporters with a laugh.

“I was able to see the whole celebration. I saw the finish. I don’t understand what it’s like to be asked about a career grand slam, so it was really cool to be able to see, but I understand a bit of it, ‘Hey, you haven’t done this, but you haven’t achieved it.’ ”

Bryson Deccanbeau says that Rory McIlroy “he didn’t tell me once.”

Schaeffler said that the moment McIlroy won looked like a “relief” moment.

“It was cool to see Rory get the job done, and definitely from the outside, it looked more like relief than anything.”

World No. 1 and pre-tournament favourite Schaeffler shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday and finished fourth with an 8-under 280.

Schaeffler returned to Hilton Head, PGA Tour this year. McIlroy doesn’t compete. This is a decision that came long before his victory at Augusta National.
