8 Best Mattress Toppers We Slept (2025)

I remember my The first mattress topper. It is bright blue, made of completely thin foam and purchased a random night from Amazon. I used it to relieve back pain on a super smoo mattress I owned during my post-university days. It wasn’t very useful – it was a thin sheet of foam on a thin mattress as well. After that experience, I thought the mattress topper was almost pointless, but the boy thought I was wrong. Types of mattress toppers

wool: Wool mattress toppers are usually filled with wool batting and fillings. Think of a quilt or upholstered chair filled with cotton wrapped around it. It’s soft, but not as soft as memory foam and not as elastic as latex. Wool is a great temperature regulator, making it perfect for hot sleepers.

Pillow top: The pillow top mattress topper is designed to have the fluffy feel of a pillow on top of the mattress. The inside of the top of the pillow may vary. Some add a design on top of the pillow over the layer of foam, while others are feather pillow layers between you and your mattress. Our favorite pillow top uses latex, but still has a fluffy, slightly sinking sensation of lying on the pillow.

latex: Latex is a manufactured material made from rubber wood. Its rubber base gives you great bounce and spring compared to memory foam. Although not labeled as a form, latex toppers usually have a form-like sheet similar to memory foam. Also, because the base is a natural substance, it is sometimes called artificial organic, but it must be treated to become a latex that can be slept or used in other products. Latex provides less sinking and less heat retention compared to memory foam.

Memory Form: Memory foams are actually polyurethane (plastic polymer) foams, created by adding other compounds (the exact combination of compounds varies by company) to the polyurethane to create the memory foam itself. It is also known as “viscoelastic” polyurethane foam, or low-resistant polyurethane foam (LRPU). It is designed to comply with your body, but then it will return to its original shape. The name “memory” comes from remembering its original shape. Memory foam tends to be one of the softest toppers and has many sinks (you may love, you may hate it). Some companies add additional ingredients such as cooling gels and graphite to aid in memory foam cooling.

Gentle bubbles: Serene Foam is a new trademark material created by Carpenter Co., the parent company of Casper Sleep. It is made from billions of polyurethane foams, like memory foam, but also consists of microscopic air capsules. It is designed to address some of the drawbacks of traditional memory foam, such as heat retention and varying hardness levels, while maintaining the same luxurious and pressure-relieving feel. A quick warning if you like heating pads: Polyurethane gentle foam is not recommended to be used in heating devices such as electric blankets and heating pads.

hybrid: The hybrid mattress topper uses multiple fillings that you can find on your own. These combinations vary. Helix’s favorite hybrid topper uses coils and foam, while Viscosoft’s hybrid topper uses a mix of memory foam and soft fiber to use it for the top feel of your pillow. If you feel that a single type of topper doesn’t suit your needs – whether it’s too soft or not soft enough, the hybrid option may be the best for you.
