Former CIA director gives Trump “credit” for negotiations for Russian Ukraine
Former Secretary of Defense Obama and CIA director Leon Panetta confirmed President Donald Trump on Thursday the “possibility” of a “clean” Russian-Ukraine ceasefire contract.
On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Ukraine agreed The situation is subject to Russia’s response to the 30-day ceasefire filed by the Trump administration.
But Russian President Vladimir Putin has it I haven’t accepted the transaction yet“The idea itself is correct and we certainly support it. But there are issues that need to be discussed.”
Panetta gave Trump credibility on “CNN News Central,” acknowledging that he could negotiate a potential ceasefire deal, urging Putin to stand firm.

“Look, this is a presidential test,” Panetta said. “Whether he stands strong in doing the right thing or running through the caves to Putin, that will be a problem. And I hope he stands strong.”
“He was able to negotiate the possibility of a clean ceasefire, and that’s all to his credit,” he continued.
Panetta warned that adding other issues to the negotiations would “damage our ability to get a ceasefire now.”
“What the president needs to make clear to Putin is that there is an opportunity to embrace a ceasefire that will stop the killing,” he said. “Do that and then negotiate on long-term issues.”

Panetta’s comments came just after Trump said he was offering it “Hope” that Russia does “Do the right thing,” he agrees to a ceasefire with Ukraine.

Trump told reporters after Putin’s statement was “very promising” but incomplete.

“Many of the details of the final contract are actually being discussed,” Trump said. “Now we’re going to see if Russia is there.”
“If not, it would be a very unfortunate moment for the world,” he added.
