A crash of 17 vehicles in Austin, Texas leaves five deaths, including children

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, it is a massive pile that includes a semi-truck that was deployed late Thursday night along I-35 in the Northern Austin area.
The agency said some people were “fixed to the vehicle” following the wreck.
“Five patients (3 adults, 1 child and 1 infant) have been declared dead at the scene,” Austin Travis County EMS wrote about X.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
Of the 12 injured, three of them are children, officials said.
The southbound I-35 section where the crash occurred appeared to be closed early Friday morning.

Several people were “locked to the vehicle” after crashing late Thursday night, according to Austin Travis County EMS. (KTBC)
“All lanes on the N IH 35 SB are closed and will be in a few hours. Avoid areas, expect delays, find alternative routes,” the Austin Police Department wrote to X.
“The incident was incredibly confusing and spread over about 10 miles,” Austin Travis County EMS Captain Christa Steadman told CBS Austin.
