Chelsea have space against Arsenal, Maresca says
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he can play differently on his side and hit Arsenal on Sunday’s break.
Maresca’s side jealed at halftime of their conference league victory Copenhagen on Thursday nightBecause they didn’t make one effort to score despite dominating the ball.
Some supporters have also been frustrated with the side’s approach in the Premier League recently with Leicester, but Maresca thinks they can be more dynamic against second-placed Arsenal.
“The intention is (to control the ball),” he said. “And if we are capable it depends heavily on the other person.
“They told me that Pedro Neto (against Copenhagen) had a sprint in 90 minutes, because we were sitting at the edge of the box.
“So if you’re waiting for the game back (against Arsenal), make sure the striker and winger do 20 sprints for 60, 70 minutes.
“When you play most games on the other side, there is no room for such a sprint.
“Our plan is to control the game, but Arsenal is a team that tries to make it aggressive and press high and will likely have more space to attack behind.”
Maresca confirmed that Robert Sanchez is set to score for the rest of the Premier League season despite Philip Jorgensen facing Copenhagen.
“I think Robert needed a few days off, or at least he needs to take a mental break,” Maresca said. “He’s back. Hopefully we’ll never change until the end of the season.”
