Hockey News: WHL players knocked unconscious during the fight and took him to hospital


The junior hockey player was knocked unconscious in a fight Tuesday night, resulting in a pause of the match.

Tricity American defensive man Terrell Goldsmith, 19, of Seattle Thunderbird, dropped his gloves shortly after the first contest of the Second season.

Following Goldsmith’s injury, the game was delayed and then stopped. The Western Hockey League said the match will be “rescheduled at a later date.”

The Thunderbirds had a 2-0 lead at the time of suspension.

“The decision to suspend last night’s WHL game between Seattle and Tricity was not made lightly. Following the on-ice incident, coaches and players from both clubs were consulted, and various on-ice staff and foreign officials in the building and in the WHL office were consulted,” the WHL statement read.

“Collectively, the decision was made to pause the game due to concerns over Terrell Goldsmith’s happiness and the emotional state of players on both the Thunderbirds and Americans roster.”

“The game will be rescheduled at a later date, but these conversations have not yet been made as Terrell’s happiness continues to prioritize it.”

The American posted another update to Goldsmith on X on Thursday, where he thanked everyone for Goldsmith’s support and said he was released from hospital on Wednesday night and was rested at home.

Once the game resumed, if Goldsmith could play, Cumby would not play for the rest of the game.
