Clean Energy provided nearly 41% of global power last year
New Jersey Sen. Michael Testa has discovered how New Jersey has moved forward with plans to link energy rates to people’s income with “The Bottom Line.”
Clean energy accounted for almost 41% of the world’s electricity in 2024.
Ember released Report On Tuesday it was found that 40.9% of last year’s global electricity generation came from clean energy.
Last year, it marked “the first time since the 1940s.” Global power generation According to the Energy Think Tank, the 40% threshold has been exceeded.
Among the green energy sources, Hydro was responsible for 14.3% of the world’s electricity. Behind it was a 9% nucleus, while the wind and sun produced 8.1% and 6.9% respectively, the report says. Other renewable energies, such as bioenergy, geothermal and tide, account for less than 3%.

Overall, clean energy was responsible for 12,609 terawatt hours (TWH) generation (TWH) in 2024, marking a 9.6% increase from the previous year.

Renewable Energy Particularly last year, solar stands out as the “biggest contributor” of its third consecutive year, Ember said.
Solar added more than twice the amount of electricity generated in 2024 than other sources, and each think tank was “more than 20 times” decades ago.

“Solar power has become the engine of a global energy transition. In combination with battery storage, solar is set to be an unstoppable force. As the fastest growing and largest new source of electricity, it is important to meet global electricity demand.”
In 2024, electricity demand was 30,856 TWH worldwide, jumping 4% year-on-year according to Ember.
Hot climate conditions played a role in increasing global electricity demand last year. Artificial intelligence, data centers, electric vehicles And so did heat pumps, think tanks said they were responsible for 0.7% of the increase in demand last year.
According to Ember, more than three-quarters of global demand in 2024 was filled with clean energy.

According to think tanks, the growing demand for cooling from heat waves contributed to electricity generated from fossil fuels, which experienced a 1.4% increase last year.
Approximately 18,247 TWH of global electricity in 2024 came from fossil fuels. According to Ember, it represents 59.1% of the world’s electricity generation.
“If the temperature had not been affected by the high temperature, the fossil generation would have remained flat,” Ember said in the report.
The think tank said it had considered “the latest 2024 data from 88 countries, accounting for 93% of global electricity demand, as well as 2024 estimates from all other countries” to prepare the report.

In the US, clean energy provided 42% of electricity in 2024, but fossil fuels accounted for 58%, according to the report.
Last year, gas accounted for about 42.5% of America’s electricity generation. Ember said that coal energy generation in the United States was 14.9%, with the first case marking its lower than 15%.

The report also found that 17% of US electricity was generated specifically by wind and sun last year. As for Solar, according to think tanks, it is marked 64 TWH Jump, “the biggest increase in the solar system” in the country.
