UK pool organization updates policy to keep trans competitors out against women

The two players faced each other in the semi-finals of the British Miniseries Pool Championship in October. Haynes won that matchup, but lost the biological women’s championship.
In August 2023, the World Eightball Pool Federation (WEPF) announced that it would update its guidelines to allow only those who are “born women” to play sports.

“We understand that this decision may encourage questions and discussion within our sports. We want to emphasize that our commitment to maintaining sportsmanship, inclusiveness and compliance with regulatory standards remains unwavering,” WEPF said at the time. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure the continued growth and development of the sport we all love, and to maintain a harmonious balance between inclusion and competitive integrity. We recognize the importance of fostering an environment where everyone can participate and thrive, and we continue to focus on maintaining these principles to the fullest extent of our capabilities.”

However, Ultimate Pool also said their decision was made when the UK Supreme Court defined the word “woman” under its biological meaning, not gender ideology.
“In this ruling, the Supreme Court ruled that gender recognition certificates do not change a person’s legal gender for the purposes of the Equality Act of 2010,” the new Ultimate Pool Guidelines states.

“Barones Kishwar Faulkner, Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), has confirmed that the ruling is clear and that trans women are unable to participate in women’s sports and that the EHRC pursues an organization that does not renew its policies.
