Walmart-backed family business opens manufacturing plants in the US

Milo’s Tea Company, American Drinks A company supported by Walmartopened a new $200 million manufacturing and distribution facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Tuesday. This marked the fourth facility.
The Alabama-based family-owned woman-led business has been producing and selling iced tea and lemonade since 1946, founded by Milo and Beakerlton. The company was founded after Milo Carlton completed his service in World War II.

Milo’s tea began as a small business with one factory in Bessemer, Alabama, but is expanding rapidly to meet customer demand. The company’s first factory opened in Alabama in 2002, but quickly surpassed the facility.
“Because of the explosive growth over the past decade, we realised we needed another site,” Tricia Wallwork, CEO of Milo’s tea company, told Fox Business. The company began its multi-year site selection journey, expanding to its second facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma in early 2020. The number of jobs has been tripled.

The company again expanded operations in 2021, when it acquired the then sitter dairy facility.
Over the past 13 years, the company has grown from 50 employees to around 1,000. Currently, the company’s 26 products are available at more than 55,000 retailers nationwide, including around 4,200. Walmart store.
If a South Carolina facility is fully operational, it employs more than 200 workers. The facility is part of Walmart’s $350 billion commitment announced in 2021, investing in products manufactured, grown and assembled in the United States for a decade.

The investment represents Walmart’s second multi-billion dollar pledge to support American employment through domestic procurement. In 2013, the company committed $250 billion through its US manufacturing initiative.

“What we’re always looking for is where our customers are heading, where the market is heading, and how these two can help us meet together.
In 2024, more than two-thirds of Walmart’s total US product expenditures were in suppliers reported, grown or assembled in the US.

“What we’re always trying to do is keep prices as low as possible. And we do that efficiently. We provide it. We work together by working with our suppliers to distribute our products. And we’re looking for a partner that can grow,” Farner said.
