India’s petroleum signature $2.4 billion import contract with LNG Trafigura
Indian oil reportedly has signed a five-year agreement with global commodity trader Trafigura to purchase 2.5 million tonnes (MT) of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as announced as Sahney.

Trafigura plans to deliver three to four LNG cargoes to India this year, and six annual cargoes starting next year.
The transaction is part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen energy imports from the US, aiming to address trade imbalances with the country.
Amidst the tensions in US-China trade, traders are instead considering diverting some of China’s predecessor shipments of LNG instead, the report said.
According to KPLER data, India, the fourth largest LNG importer in the world, brought in 26.58mt of LNG in 2024.
The US, India’s second largest LNG supplier, is currently being discussed to increase supply volumes further to meet India’s rapidly expanding economy’s demands, the report says.
