Abdullah Mason targets the battle of Keyshaun Davis
Abdullah Mason says WBO Lightweight Champion Keyshawn Davis is one of 135 champions interested in combat “Now.He points out that Mike Tyson won his first heavyweight world title in 20. Abdullah, 21, is a year older and knocks everyone out like “Iron Mike” did at the start of his career.
Mason targets Keyshaun
Invincible candidate Mason (18-0, 16 Kos) admits he won’t do so “When do you know?” He fights for the world title against Keyshaun or two other champions Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, but he believes it won’t last long from now.
The way Abdullah was dropped twice in the battle with Johann Vazquez in the first round last November suggests that he will not be rushed to the title shot by any of the champions. Mason’s jaw is too fragile, his defense is leaky and there is no leak to match Keyshawn and Tank Davis early in his career.
Top Rank decides that Abdullah is ready to challenge the world title, but it is unlikely that he will give him a green light to fight Keyshawn as they promote him. It is better for Top Rank to keep Mason and Keyshaun on separate passes to create revenue streams.
Mason is playing on June 7th with veteran Jeremiana Catilia (26-4, 21 KOs) and Keyshawn’s undercard in a 10-round chief support match at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Davis defends the WBO 135 pound title against Edin de Los Santos. The event will be displayed I live in ESPN and ESPN+.
“I definitely want to fight him and other fighters in my division. We have other champions. Shakur Stevenson, we have Tank Davis, and Raymond Muratara is the world champion now,” Abdullah Mason said. fighthype When asked if he was interested in fighting WBO Lightweight Champion Keyshawn Davis.
Keyshaun Davis leaves light soon
Keyshawn is expected to move to 140 soon. So there’s little chance that Mason will fight him before he leaves the lightweight division. He is already as big as a 135 pound division home, and it’s only a matter of time before he fails to build weight.
“I don’t know when I’ll be able to fight them, but it looks like it’s going to become real right away,” Mason said. “So, when I continue to step up, I am now a co-main event and ranked fourth in the WBC, and I can’t wait to step in there with someone who gives me the opportunity.
The WBC title should be something Mason chases after, as Shakur Stevenson holds that belt. He’s a light hitter and Mason doesn’t have to worry about his punch power if he fights Keyshaun or Tank Davis. In the WBC rankings there are other fighters before Mason. So he has to wait a while before getting a shot with that belt.
“He’s a great opponent. He lets go of his hands. He’s a hard hitter and he puts everything he’s in every punch,” Abdullah said of his opponent, Jeremiah Nakatiria. “He’s got a little shorter (against Shakur Stevenson), but he needs to be ready to shorten one more time.
Nakatiglia, 35, has great power and could be dangerous for Mason if he fights recklessly like Johann Vazquez. He punches him harder than Vasquez and when he connects nicely, Abdullah gets into trouble.
“The things I saw were Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, greats in sports. Sugar Ray Robinson was that guy. He was the one I saw when I first started watching boxing.”
