Stevenson vs. Zepeda: Shakur’s Stardom Chance
Promoter Eddie Hearn is again in the soapbox and told the media how great Shakur Stephenson is, and was surprised he wasn’t there yet. “American superstarsHe will be ahead of his battle with William Zepeda on July 12th. Matchroom promoters don’t get it. He thought he found pure gold when he signed Shakur.
Hahn is looking to attract attention for WBC lightweight champion Shakur (23-0, 11 Kos) for his fight against Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs) to fight Jevonta Davis later this year. It depends heavily on how Stephenson performs on July 12th, whether he won, and whether he can do so without running.
It also makes it a question of whether Turki Alalshikh wants to help Tank Davis vs. Shakur fight. Without his involvement, it is doubtful whether Gervonta would want to plague his battle with Stevenson. If he’s not engaged, he wouldn’t want to chase him around the ring. He needs to look golden against Zepeda. That’s where it begins.
“I’ve said he’s one of the best promoters in the sport and I think he’s proven well himself,” Shakur Stephenson said. YSM Sports Media About Eddie Hearn.
Why Shakur isn’t a superstar
“We started working together, so give us a chance,” Haan said of Shakur. “I said that about Shakur before we represented him. Those guys, Terrence, they should be American superstars for the abilities they have. The good news is he (Shakur) 27.”
Boxing style from Mayweather era
Shakur and Terrence Crawford are not superstars as they have a boring and outdated fighting style since the ancient Floyd “Money” Mayweather era in boxing. If you find a working time machine, stack Shakur and Crawford, send them back to the late 1990s and early 2000s, they’ll fit in quickly. If you’re bored, you don’t look like this era. You have to enjoy. With boring style, you will never become a star. It is better to understand that Hahn understands it earlier than late, as it saves a lot of money by not signing an extension to Shakur after the fight with Zepeda.
If Haan wants to turn Shakur into a superstar, he can move him to England and have him adopt a fake British accent and match him with the fighter jets over there. Maybe he could be recruited by the British as one of them. I doubt that, but that’s his best chance.
Sooner or later, Hearn must realize that he chose Albatross to try and transform him into a superstar. He cannot force Americans to see Shakur. And Glazing Shakur is not going to work either, as we hear that he thinks he is a nut when our fans are screaming for Shakur’s praises.
“Imagine crazy being a three-division world champion and not sweating. Look at what he did (2022) (Oscar) Valdes,” Hahn said. “I was watching as a fan. I didn’t know that one day we could work with him, but I see him as ‘I can’t believe how good this young guy is.’ ”
Shakur did not fight enough opposition at 126 and 130 in his title, so he must work hard. His fight with Joet Gonzalez in the 2019 WBO 126 pound title was similar to a sparring session. It seemed Joet wasn’t trying hard to win. They looked more like friends than enemies.
De Los Santos Stuggy by Shakur
He was definitely sweating as he was running around the ring in Stevenson’s battle with Edwin de los Santos. Shakur was close to losing.
Fans booed Stevenson’s performance
The judges made him a 12-round decision, which was not impressive. T-Mobile fans booed Shakur from the fourth round and continued to boo him when he was interviewed in the ring. Even as Stevenson walked into his dressing room, fans continued to boo him. I’ve never seen anything like that. Hearn must have been watching the fight. Because Shakur appears apoptotic inside the ring, and is chased by Delos Santos all night.
“He’s not me, he’s the one who has to be mobstered. I’m a fat promoter from Essex. This is a superstar. This is what your fighter dreams of having such talent. You see pure greatness with this young man,” Hahn said.
Shakur wasn’t doing enough to become a superstar in the US, winning titles at 126 and 130. It didn’t impress the boxing public as opposed Stevenson fought. He won the WBC lightweight title for ugly fashion and moved non-stop with a narrow decision over Edwin de los Santos.

130: Jamell Herring – WBO
