Over 800 Miles of Grain Belt Express Energy Project intensifies in Missouri
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey explains why the multi-stage infrastructure project was not approved and why he is talking about the legislative needs to meet energy needs and restore confidence in federal agencies.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey on Tuesday condemned Invenergy’s multi-billion-dollar grain belt express project.
The grain belt represents the electrical transmission line that the power generation company plans to build.
The power lines run in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, totaling 800 miles, Invenergy said.

“We have no promises made here in Missouri to the regulators and the public, and there is no electronics to push the power line,” Bailey said. “And as long as these new power lines are needed, why aren’t they built on existing footprints rather than damaging Missouri’s agriculture, the basis of Missouri’s economy?”

A spokesman for the Grain Belt Express pushed back Bailey’s comments in a statement Fox Business.
“It is irresponsible for the AG to undermine the President’s efforts to resolve an energy emergency, especially if all four states, including Missouri, approve Grain Belt Express based on a rigorous assessment of its substantial public interest.”

Construction of phase 1 of the power line, focusing on the Kansas and Missouri parts, is expected to begin next year.
On May 7, Invenergy announced it had awarded a total of $1.7 billion to a $1.7 billion company as part of a $11 billion project to build Grain Belt Express.

The two contract awards were also highlighted by the Trump administration and the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the latter in a post in X, saying the project “helps meet the demand” to make the project more power and “enhancing the credibility of millions of Americans.”
Overall, Invenergy estimates that Grain Belt Express will save $52 billion in energy costs over a decade and a half.
As President Donald Trump said in his executive order, when asked Bartiromo about why Invenergy was doing this at the beginning of the month, Polsky said it was “basically an energy emergency and an electric emergency.”
