David Beckham becomes a knight as part of King’s birthday honor

David Beckham is reportedly going to become a knight in the upcoming King’s birthday honors.

The accolade marks new milestones, recognizing both his legendary football career and extensive philanthropy.

The 50-year-old, captaining the UK and earning the international cap of 115, first became an officer of the British Empire Order (OBE) in 2003.

Beckham’s professional journey spans several of the world’s top clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, La Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan. He cut his boots in 2013.

Off the field, Beckham is deeply involved in charity and philanthropy. He has been the UNICEF ambassador since 2005, and in 2015 the “David Beckham UNICEF Fund” was established to celebrate the 10-year partnership.

More recently, Beckham became the Kings Foundation ambassador in 2024, working on promoting youth education and environmental awareness by Charles III’s main initiative.

Beckham was first nominated for the Order in 2011. However, this journey was not without controversy. In 2017, leaked emails emerged in several British newspapers, reporting Beckham’s criticism of the honor system and its decision makers.

Beyond his sport and charity achievements, Beckham makes a major contribution to the ownership and development of football.

He is part of Salford City, competing in League Two in England, and is the president and co-owner of Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

Beckham’s longtime England teammate Wayne Rooney praised the move, saying, “He is the great ambassador of football and the country.

“We have all seen the charity he has been doing for years and I am sure he will continue.

“Globally, he is a huge icon for any charity to work with and is proud of everyone by raising a lot of money over the years.

“If you don’t work hard, you won’t reach his level all over the world. He was persistent and kept getting the rewards he deserved.”
