“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg on Thursday insisted that people are not taking Maryland Gov. Wesmoore’s presidential bid seriously because “we can’t elect black people in America.”
Goldberg said she is now questioning the Democrats as people tell her that Americans aren’t ready to elect a black man for president, despite the fact that former President Barack Obama has been voted twice for the oval office.
“I’m questioning the Republicans and now I’m questioning the Democrats,” she said. “You know, you have someone like Wes Moore, the perfect candidate… And people say you can’t choose black people. Why not?”
“View” slams “blind loyalty” to the political party after Karine Jean-Pierre left the Democrats.

Other co-hosts quickly pushed back Goldberg’s claims, with Sunny Hostin saying, “We’ve done it twice!” It hints at the fact that Obama, who is black, won the national election twice.
Goldberg tried to explain her reasoning, but was quickly cut off by other co-hosts who expressed enthusiasm for the prospect of Moore being president.
Shortly afterwards, Goldberg explained to his audience what he believed was necessary for “change to happen.”

“If we want to make a difference, you have to go out and vote, so we need to make it happen,” she insisted. “There’s no way around that, right?”
Previous to the show, Goldberg argued that she was not independent, but she was neither a Republican nor a Democrat.
“There’s no name for what I am,” she insisted, laughing from the audience. “It’s not a name because there are some that fit what I want and some that aren’t. And I’m the crazy guy who said, ‘Why don’t you have a Democrat president and a Republican vice president?”
