Mbappe shifted focus to World Cup qualifiers after the Nations League Campaign, rejecting Ballon D’OR Talks

French captain Killian Mbappe says he is happy to bounce back from an international league defeat to a loss to Spain in the third place playoffs.

Thanks to the goals from Real Madrid star and Michael Ollies, Les Bruce ended the campaign with a victory over Germany.

And while there were many things I liked about France’s performance in Stuttgart, Mbappe took a balanced approach to things in his post-match interview.

He said: “We played two games and learned both positive and negative. We weren’t bored. There’s a lot of things we did well. There’s a lot to analyze.

“We had to respond to our defeat against Spain. We did it, we are very happy. Germany is never easy. We will go home. We will be back soon. (World Cup) I will always talk about it.

“When you’re a player, there’s nothing more beautiful than representing a national team at the World Cup. You have to qualify first. The actual story begins with a qualifying match in Ukraine. You have to prepare for the long journey, the World Cup.

That’s what happens (in his drought). It’s good that people point out when I don’t score because they’re waiting for me to score. It respects my name. I was about to work. There were a lot of episodes that delayed the deadline. I’m happy to start scoring again, but especially to win.

Mbappe was also asked about his chances of winning Barondoor after his prolific debut campaign with Madrid.

However, the Young Forward failed to win the silver product, so it’s unlikely he’ll win the award.

He added: “I have an opinion, but that’s not very important. The only trophy I can influence is the golden boots, because it depends on my feet.

“I have always wanted to be important with the French team, and it’s good to start to be decisive again.

“I’m one of the best scorers in the history of a French team, so it feels good to start scoring again. I knew it was coming back. We talked a lot. That’s what I’m happy when I start scoring again, the team is happy.”
