Minnesota Senator and her husband are dead, while the senator and his wife were injured while authorities were seeking shooters “Targeted” attack About politicians and their families.
Former House Speaker Melissa Hortman, 55, was first elected to the House in 2004 and served for her 11th term as a member of the Democrats. She acted as a minority leader from 2017 to 2019 and as Speaker of the House from 2019 to 2025.
She previously worked for Senator Algore and John Kelly before enrolling in law school.

She has worked with multiple organizations throughout her community, and, according to her website, is described as a “lifelong resident of northern suburbs, mothers, volunteers and small business.”
Hortman made a headline earlier this week to be the only House Democrat to vote to eliminate medical insurance funded by illegal adult immigrants taxpayers.
According to KTTC, Hortman said “I knew that the vote would hurt people and worked so hard to try a budget transaction that didn’t include that provision.”
Minnesota officials made headlines a few days ago over the controversial immigration vote.

Hortman reportedly voted against the bill to move the budget through the state’s split legislature.
Earlier this year, Hortman led House Democrats On a three-week strike over power with Republicans. Hortman ultimately abandoned the small giveaway to Rep. Lisa Demus and took on the role of Speaker Emeryta.

Sen. John Hoffman, 60, and his wife Yvette, were also shot Saturday, but are expected to survive.
Hoffman was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2012 and is serving for his fourth term as a member of the Democrats party. Before taking office, Hoffman served as vice-chairman of the Anoka Hennepin Board of Education.
He chairs the Human Services Committee and holds seats on the Energy, Utility, Environment and Climate Committee, along with the Environment, Climate and Legacy Committee and the Health and Human Services Committee.
Hoffman and his wife have one child.

“My heart is broken about the events that unfolded overnight and the loss of life, security and peace that we all feel now,” said Mark Johnson, Minnesota Senate minority leader. In a statement. “The family of Speaker Melissa Hortman and Senator John Hoffman are in my prayers. Senate Republicans are united in the condemnation of this brave act of violence.”

Authorities did not disclose any possible motives for the violence.
Authorities say police were called to Hoffmans’ home just after 2am and found a couple with multiple gunshot wounds. As a precaution, officers were sent to the Hortman home.
Upon arrival, authorities met a man who dressed a police officer at the Hortman home and a man who looked like a police car parked outside.

“As officers stood up to him, the individual immediately fired a fire at the officer who had engaged in the firefight, and the suspect returned to his home and retreated,” said Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Brew.
Several AK-style guns have been recovered from the suspect’s vehicle, along with a mountain of “No Kings” flyers, and there was a clear nod to the anti-Trump administration’s protests cleaning the country this weekend. Belter is believed to be armed with a pistol.
FBI It offers a $50,000 reward for information that leads to Boelter’s arrest. Authorities believe Belter may be trying to escape from the area, and he is considered armed and dangerous.
The bolter is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds. Officials ask anyone with information Boelter’s Whereabouts Call 877-996-6222.
