Taiwan will control Huawei and Smic exports


Chinese companies Huawei and Smic may have difficulty accessing the resources needed to build AI chips due to Taiwan’s export control.

Bloomberg reports from Taiwan’s International Trade Bureau I placed two companies and their subsidiaries in the updated list of entities It is designated as a strategic high-tech product. This means that Taiwanese companies need government approval before they can ship anything to any of the companies.

As a result, Huawei and Smic have lost access to Taiwan’s plant construction technology, materials and equipment, and could potentially regain China’s efforts to develop new AI semiconductors, Bloomberg said.

“On June 10, we added 601 entities from Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Myanmar and mainland China. Huawei and Smic have included Smythe in their entity list to combat the spread of weapons and address other national security concerns,” the Trade Bureau said in a statement.
