MSNBC Anchors combine political violence with ignoring “people’s will”

MSNBC anchor Ayman Mohyeldin on Sunday asked whether the “lone wolves” engaged in political violence could denounce current failures when the political system hears their concerns.
Over the weekend, the MSNBC panel discussed the recent wave of political violence over the past decade, from shootings in Republican baseball practices in Congress, to more recent attempts at murder by two Israeli embassy workers in Donald Trump’s life and United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The panel’s conversation was spurred by the murder of former Democrat Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, as well as the related shootings of Democrat Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. The suspects in these attacks are Vanceruser Volterwas captured after a two-day manhunt and was later charged with two stalkers, two murders and two firearm-related crimes in federal court.
During the panel, Mohieldin turned to former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, asking whether recent trends in political violence could denounce the system for not hearing voter concerns.

“How efficiently do you think our democracy and how efficiently our government is run and the risk of political violence?” asked Mohildin. “When people are out there who feel hopelessness, and by no means justification, I think of Luigi Mangione, who killed the CEO of a healthcare company in cold blood — when the government has no political exit, when the government or the system does not represent the will of the people, these isolated people believe in this type of violation. Our society, no matter how efficiently our system of governance works?”
“Through history, there has always been a correlation between political moments and whether society serves people,” the former mayor replied, warning that “there is never legitimized for political violence.”
De Blasio argued that, despite a period of relative peace, “the ’60s were an era of political violence, and these last years were also where the level of political conflict was strengthened, and of course, those voices gave permission structures.”

After citing past examples of violence by both state and non-state actors, the former mayor said, “When society generally feels that they are serving them, when there is a sense of belonging, when people’s sense of people are included, the temperature drops, and it has the presence and the presence of elements of violation.
