In the first quarter of 2025, the Enterprise Saas M&A trading count hit 210, according to Pitchbook

According to recent pitchbook data, there is a fair amount of news in the first quarter of 2025. This was also a considerable jump from the beginning of the first quarter of 2024, seeing 165 Enterprise Thirds mergers and acquisitions.

Additionally, the total amount of Enterprise Saas VC-backed M&As threw $14.6 billion in the first quarter, while the private equity-driven transaction count reached the sector’s new quarterly record with 73 transactions, according to Pitchbook.

Now, let’s think about some not-so-good news. The total transaction value of Enterprise SaaS M&A for the first quarter was $29.1 billion from $38.7 billion in the fourth quarter. Additionally, five transactions account for approximately half of the total transaction value for the entire quarter. The $5.3 billion acquisition of Clear Lake Capital Group’s medical software company, the $3.1 billion healthcare data entity-edit Feck from KKR-backed COTIVITI, the $290 million AI Tool Gunicorn Movedive from Servicenow, the $1.4 billion acquisition of Coreworkes Weights & Biases and the $1.4 billion Hollywood-centric generation media startup metaphysics from DNEG Group. (It’s jarring, but we’ve seen skew like this before. AI investment is shaking– The landscape appears to have many actions in total trading value, but on a thorough inspection, the data reveals gravity to a more established bet. )

So, what does this mean? I think it comes down to two things. First: AI is supporting a new wave of enterprise SaaS trading, and despite prolonging regulatory and macro pressure, deal makers are spinning the dice again in transactions that drive the market. Second, at the same time, the future remains uncertain in both the level of macroeconomic volatility that (or may not) go down the pike.

And that’s how, for now, it’s the way it ends between full-scale rebounds and permanent ruts. My guess is that here and now, June 17th: we have seen a more decisive recovery by the end of the year. Do you have a taker? As always, I want to hear what you think.

see you tomorrow,
