Meta will partner with Oakley with new AI-powered performance glasses


Tech Giant Meta announced on Friday that it will partner with Oakley to launch a new performance glass Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Meta and Oakley are developing a new category of sports performance AI glasses called Oakley Meta Glasses. This combines Oakley design with Meta technology to give people wearing glasses more insight into their physical capabilities. This move follows their collaboration Ray-Ban Meta GlassOakley and Ray-Ban are brands within Essilorluxottica.

Both companies are launching the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses as their first product in their new category. Oakley Meta Meta allows wearers to capture videos and images with built-in cameras and integrate open-ear speakers into the frame, allowing the wearers to listen to the content while engaging in their favorite activities.

Meta vice president of wearables, Alex Himmel told Fox Business Network’s Madison Alworth in an interview that a new category of glasses will tackle “questions from people who use Ray-Ban Meta glasses.”

“We’re offering 3K videos because of the high quality. This is very exciting. The battery lasts for a long time. This is one of our top complaints. No matter how long the battery lasts, people always want it to last, so we’re offering quite a significant improvement on that,” Himmel explained. “And we’ll continue to add more software features.”

Among the new features of Oakley Metagrass are Longer battery lifethe company’s announcement said it could last up to 8 hours during typical use and 19 hours during standby. This is a jump from typical use of about 4 hours in Ray-Ban Meta Glass. It can also charge up to 40% in 20 minutes, but the charging case can also offer up to 48 hours of charging.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses also come with a high-resolution camera and an IPX4 water-resistant rating. The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses come in five product options, two of which offer transition lenses.

Himmel said his experience with Ray-Ban Meta glasses shows AI glasses use case Some performance use cases, such as those who don’t want to have something in their hands, or other situations where people want to free their hands and lift their heads.

“We’ve seen performance use cases. With more seniors in the company also becoming obsessed with performance activities, we’re excited about what Oakley Meta Glasses can do and how we can bring them onto the field,” he said.

Himel also discussed the evolution of wearable AI glasses since its first launch, supported by rapid advances in AI technology.

“I think what’s most exciting right now is the trajectory of glasses,” Himel said. “We previously thought we couldn’t hit large adoption until we could have a large display that could overlay content about what we see in the physical world, or expand true augmented reality.”

He added that AI wearable technology is important for people to do so. I want to wear it all day long.

“One of the things I’m really excited about Ray-Ban Metaglasses is that Oakley Metaglasses are just a pair of comfortable and functional glasses. If you’re outside, if you’re sunglasses, or if you’re wearing prescription glasses, we’ll provide them,” Himmel said.

Meta research into AI-powered meta led the company to believe that “glasses are the ultimate form factor for AI,” and Himel spoke about how during the development of Ray-Ban Meta Glasses the initial intention was to focus on audio and video-related use cases.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg I contacted Himel about six months before the glasses were fired and asked if the glasses could serve as a platform for AI technology. Within a few days, the company allocated hundreds of engineers to incorporate AI capabilities into its glasses.

The limited edition Oakley Meta HSTN model is available for pre-order for $499 starting July 11th, but the remaining Oakley Meta collections will be available at a starting price of $399 this summer.

The release date for Oakley Meta HSTN on July 11th will also mark the 50th anniversary of Oaklevel brand.
