If it’s messy desk It’s a Signs of GeniusI might be one of the cleverest people out there.

Whether in my office or my own home, I started the purest intentions to keep my desk clean and messy. Spoiler alert: Most of the time it’s not worth it. One of the biggest, ahem obsessive points in my organizing process is the huge numbers of stickiness I use. Classic Post-it Notes, adhesive notes shaped like flower, novelty pads, tape flags – my office supply arsenal has it all.

I write everything with my hand with a pen. And I mean everything. I’m not the only one Paper Planner But it also includes sticky notes in almost every room in my house. I have them in the kitchen, my nightstands, my car. And I’m always like that It has been scientifically proven When you write things down, writing by hand activates a wider range of connections in your brain, thus enhancing learning and memory.

I love the memo app Just like everyone elsebut I hope that when I type in something I need to do in the future, I need to remember those things, as well as give it a title with something searchable. Once you write it down on a sticky note, you can not only remember, but stick exactly where you can see it. Do doctor’s offices call unexpectedly while I’m in another room? Sticky Note. Can’t I text him because it’s a reminder to my husband who is still asleep and his phone is not set to silence? Sticky Note. Sticky notes for my kids. Sticky notes for friends. My car, my garage sticky notes…it’s a system that’s incorrect.

But the worst criminal of sticky notes is my workstation. If you receive any kind of practical instructions, whether it’s via a meeting, email, slack message or phone call, you’ll be immediately slammed into a sticky note and slammed by the planner. However, I didn’t think much about what those notepads were doing visually for my space. This is a sticky note stack made for decoration.

Sticky Memoball was born at Rochester Institute of Technology, not at the 3M meeting room, not at the brains of Romy and Michelle. Every year, the school focused on STEM holds a design initiative called Metaprojectpair with RIT students to create a product focused on the theme of “Design Is One.” This is the official philosophy of the school’s Design Research Center. (It was named in honor of Italian designers Lella and Massimo Vignelli, the latter known for their modernist designs that incorporate geometric shapes.)
