Porto V al Ahly: lineup, statistics, preview

Porto and Al Ahly will be taking part in the final group stage match day of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Portuguese side began with a promising 0-0 draw against Palmeiras, but on Thursday they drove an early lead with a 2-1 loss to Intermiami in Atlanta thanks to a second-half goal.

“I don’t think it’s going to be an easy match,” said Midfielder Gabri Veiga, who signed from Saudi club Al-Ahli earlier this month for around £12.8 million.

“I know Al Ahly. Their coach (Jose Riveiro) trained me when I was eight. I know how they work. They’re very good.

“I was in Saudi Arabia and I know they’re a very shocking, very well-balanced team and have a wide list of achievements, including Egyptian and African Champions League titles.”

The Egyptian champions were disappointed not to beat Miami in the opening game of the tournament after losing 2-0 to Palmeiras on Thursday.

“Al Ally will play tomorrow’s game for his dream of reaching the next stage,” said former Orlando Pirates manager Riveiro.

“This is Al Aly’s identity. A club that doesn’t give up until the last whiskers whiskers. We came to the US to get good results. Players sometimes provided solid performances, but it’s hard to talk about positive things when they’re not securing victory.”

“Qualification is still possible. We are a strong team and we fight against everything we have to go through. We deliver the best performances and hopefully we win.

“I’ve been here for two weeks to learn about the style and culture of the players. They’re not happy with the recent results and don’t understand the responsibility of the shoulders.”
