Reports to part-timers sign off at shock points at the 2025 Club World Cup, results, goals

Part-timers Auckland City caused one of the major shocks at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This led both sides to quit the tournament in Nashville with six-time South American champion Boca Junior in a 1-1 draw.

Goalkeeper Nathan Gallow’s 26-minute goal put Boca on course because of what was expected to be a routine victory over an opponent who lost 10-0 to Bayern Munich and 6-0 to Benfica in the first two group stage games.

Carlos Palacios sent a shot against the crossbar, and Miguel Melentiel headed to the post after Boca threatened a second before the break, but Oakland was headed from the first corner in the 52nd minute with defender and trainee teacher Christian Gray.

Gallow was busy and Melins ruled out offsides during the closing stages, making the New Zealand team avoiding losses for the first time in eight Club World Cup matches in six tournaments, finishing in fourth place just behind their opponents.
