Here’s how to move the Chrome address bar to the bottom of your Android phone screen:
Depending on how you use your phone, and perhaps even the size of your hand, Google’s latest adjustments may be a very welcome change.
Starting on Tuesday, Chrome for Android users can now place an address bar at the bottom of the phone screen. This is a move that has been on the market for nearly 17 years since the first Android phones came to the market in 2008.
In a blog post on TuesdayGoogle says, “One address bar location may feel more comfortable than the other addresses. We design this update to give you the flexibility to choose your preferred location.
To move the address bar from top to bottom, Google tells you to select the “Move Long Press to Move Address Bar” option. Alternatively, go to the Settings menu and select Address Bar to select your preferred spot. ”
All options move along with the address bar, including the tab switcher, 3-dot overflow menu, and other shortcuts. You can place the address bar at the top if necessary.
Google said the option to move the address bar will eventually become available to all users in the coming weeks.
Small changes that make a difference
Jason Howell, host Faithful podcasts for Androidand former CNET staff praised the upgrade by Google.
“Smartphones continue to grow bigger and wider, but they are often taller and more challenging to use with one hand,” he told CNET. “The interior display of the recent Moto Razr Ultra is a great example. One-handed operation is very tall, and reaching the top address bar with one hand is often caution and dangerous.
A few years after providing address bar options to users Apple did the same thing in the safari search bar Comes with iOS 15 rollout. According to the fact that longtime users are at the top by default (which may block webpage content), but that they enabled the top bottom option in the second half of 2021.
