The lawsuit argues that Michigan’s legal review supports minorities over white men

The University of Michigan has been sued over allegations that illegally exclude straight white male applicants from the Student Law Journal for diversity, equity and inclusion.of) Priority.

A nonprofit opposed to the affirmative lawsuit denounced the University of Michigan Law School’s Student Law Journal of Michigan’s Law Review on June 18 for “using race and gender preferences to select members and articles.”

The complaint claims until recently that new members were selected based on their first grade grades and performances in the writing contest. But instead, they argue for “far-left students” who were unhappy with the demographics that arose from this selection process, which was pushed to incorporate race and sexual preferences to select new members.

“The Michigan Legal Review implements these illegal racial and sexual preferences by inviting students to submit a 750-word “personal statement” when applying for legal review membership. Applicants are encouraged to identify their gender, sexual orientation, and sexual identity.

According to the complaints, 60% of freshmen members are selected through a “comprehensive review” process that considers applicants’ personal statements among academic factors.

“Members of the Comprehensive Review Committee rigged the Comprehensive Review Process to ensure that the final composition of the upcoming legal review members includes those that the committee members consider to be a sufficiently “diverse” number of women, non-Asian minority, and gay or transgender students.”

The lawsuit also argues that Michigan’s legal review involves discrimination in selecting articles for publication by prioritizing a diverse voice and instructing editors to cite “allied identities” in its sourcing.

The complaint was filed by nonprofit faculty, alumni and students for opposition to Racial Preference (FASORP) and serves as a member of the Michigan Legal Review Association, the University of Michigan, the University of Michigan, the Journal of Law, a member of the Journal’s Comprehensive Review Board, a member of the Board of Directors, a vice president of the university, and a general counsel.

The University of Michigan and Michigan legal examinations have not returned. Fox News DigitalRequest a comment.

The university denied the lawsuit in a statement Detroit Free Press.

“The university remains immovable in its commitment to following the law,” spokeswoman Kay Jarvis said. “We will vehemently defend these allegations.”

The complaints follow an intensive scrutiny of DEI’s efforts at public universities due to the Trump administration’s actions to eliminate these racial and gender identity priorities.
