New Jersey legislators face court on Tuesday over a clash at a heated ice facility

The New Jersey legislator, who was involved in a highly publicized altercation outside the immigration facility last month, is scheduled to appear in court later today to face allegedly obstructed charges. Homeland Security Agent.
Rep. Lamonica Mciver, DN.J., is charged with a three-count indictment of forcing a federal officer to obstruct the arrest of Newark Mayor Rasbaraka at Delaney Hall. Immigration facilities May 9th. She says she will plead innocence to the charges.
McIver and two other Congresses said they were conducting Congressional oversight visits in line with immigrant protests when clashes with federal agents broke out.

According to a press release from DOJ, Baraka was allowed to enter a safe area of the facility, and federal agents warned him to leave, but he refused to do so.
When officers tried to arrest Baraka, McQuiver blocked them, placing his arm around the mayor and grabbed another officer and said he “slammed him on the forearm.”
Each of the first two counts is sentenced to a maximum of eight years. The third is carried up to the first year.

McQuiber condemned the charges earlier this month, comparing them to previous attempts by the Trump administration to silence its political opponents.

“The facts of this case will prove that I am simply doing my job and will reveal these procedures what they are: Political threatsMcQuiber said in a statement.
“This indictment is less justified than the original accusations, it is an effort by the Trump administration, a Trump administration that has caused and scared me by doing the work I was chosen to do,” she continued.
“But that doesn’t work. I’m not threatened. The facts are on our side, I’m going to enter a plea of innocence, I appreciate the support of my community and I look forward to my day in court.”

Baraka was arrested, but committed a crime of trespassing against him.
Meanwhile, the liberal watchdog group, the Campaign for Accountability, filed an ethical complaint with the New Jersey State Office of Lawyers Ethics on Tuesday, accusing Haba of serious ethical misconduct in connection with McQuiver’s prosecution and Baraka’s arrest.
The complaint alleges that their policies contradict the Trump administration’s policies and that they were politically targeted in retaliation for participating in protests and surveillance visits.
