Mbeumo needs time to adapt to Amorim’s system, Bassong argues
Sebastien Bassong believes that Bryan Mbeumo needs time to adapt to Ruben Amorim’s favorite 3-4-3 formation.
Mbeumo continues to move to Old Trafford, where United and Brentford are working on the details of the £60 million move.
The 25-year-old has been shining Brentford since joining the Troys bees in 2019, but he has primarily done so in a wide, right position.
Amorim prefers to play more centrally behind Wing Back and two creative midfielders.
That means Mbeumo has to adapt, but his fellow Cameroonian Basson is sure he has noos for him to do so.
Bassong told BBC World Services sports today: “His main asset is his soccer IQ. The way he moves himself in the space means he can get out of the situation.
“He’s quick, but when I say it quickly, I mean the way he moves. He’s always on the move and he’s very resilient to hurt people, which is what makes him a very dangerous player.
“For me, Mbeumo really sees himself on his wing because he needs space, and I don’t see him getting cramped in the middle of traffic, in the middle of the park.
It may take patience
Basson warned United fans that they might not be adapted immediately, but said, “I don’t see fit that system from the start, but he’s a very smart player and Reuben Amorim is a very visionary coach.
“I think they had some conversations, so if he went there, they both could make it work.”
