Salina Wigman will lead England at the next Women’s World Cup

According to Football Association CEO Mark Bringham, Salina Wigman will continue to take charge of England’s Lioness throughout the next World Cup cycle, regardless of the team’s performance in the upcoming Euro 2025 tournament.

Wigman, who led England to the Euro 2022 glory and the 2023 World Cup final, has been signed with the free agency until 2027. For the future.

“Salina is in place until 2027 and I don’t see a scenario that will change that,” Bringham said.

“I think she does an incredible job. We’re really happy to be with her. She’s a very important part of our organization.”

The Wiegman deal will run until after the next World Cup, but the FA has not yet discussed extending its tenure beyond 2027.

“She is the most successful coach in women’s international soccer today,” added Bringham. “We haven’t started looking beyond that time scale yet.

“I think we feel trapped in this tournament and the next tournament. It feels really good for now, but that doesn’t mean we won’t have a conversation at some point in the future, but it’s really too early.”

Meanwhile, Wiegman’s assistant Arjan Veurink will leave his role after Euro 2025 and become the head coach of the Dutch women’s national team. Veurink was also on a contract until 2027, so Bullingham confirmed that the FA received compensation fees to release him early.

“It was his dream job and he has a young family in the Netherlands, so it was a difficult situation in a way, so I’m sure it was the only opportunity he was seduced,” Bringham explained. “The opportunity checked many of his boxes on a personal level.

“I feel like I’ve found a really good alternative with Janneke Bijl and Arvid Smit.

On the subject of his recent withdrawal from the team, Bringham declined to comment directly on Mary Earps and Fran Kirby’s retirement.

“Salina is dealing with it in detail and I think we’re looking forward to it, not backwards,” he said. “We are really confident in the team going to the Euro.

“Our aim is to win. I think the team feels like they’re in a really good place when it comes to tournament accumulation. Obviously there are a lot of players who have come back from injuries and are happy that we’ve got them back.”
