Penafiel “full of pain” after Andre Silva and Diogo Jota’s deaths


Penafil says they are full of “pain and surprise” after their midfielder Andre Silva was Killed in a car accident It also claimed the life of his brother, Diogo Jota of Liverpool.

Silva, 25, and Jota, 28, were off the road and travelling through a Lamborghini, which had been fired overnight in the northwest Zamora province.

Emergency services reportedly were called at 1240am local time after being warned of an accident on a highway heading in the direction of Benavente. The firefighters put out the fire, but the medical crew were unable to save Silva or Jota.

Both players have been poured into tribute, and Penafil said in a statement released on its website:

Penafil coach Helder Cristobao told Sports TV: “Andre has brought many things to our game.

Former Porto youth player Silva has made 62 appearances for Portugal’s second tier Penafiel.

He joined in 2023 from his hometown club Gondomar and scored seven goals for the club.

At the youth level, Silva also played for Standard, Pacos de Ferreira, Famalic and Beauvista.

After passing the youth rank, Jota made his professional debut with Pacos, scoring 15 goals in his 45 appearances for the club.
