Nunes remembers Diogo Jota’s smile after the tragic death of his Liverpool teammate

Santos recalls Jota’s great passion

Former Portuguese coach Fernando Santos spoke to Mullet about Jota’s memory.

“It’s even more difficult to talk about football players at this point because that’s not the most important thing,” Azerbaijani coach Santos said.

“He made his debut with me at the age of 22. He was overshadowed by the best player in the world (Cristiano Ronaldo), but he always found his own space.

“I visited him in Liverpool when he was injured. It was a complicated moment for him, but I really enjoyed this conversation. Now I can only think about his family, his wife, and the three children he will leave.”

Nuno Campos shed tears

Nuno Campos was one of the first coaches when Jota achieved his grades as a Pacos de Ferreira expert.

Jota broke through in 2014 when Campos was working as an assistant to Pacos.

Campos, now head coach of Zaraegerceg on the Hungarian side, has remained very emotional by learning the tragic news.

“I got the news this morning when I was ready for training. I was shocked. I couldn’t hold back my tears,” Campos told SportsInforma.

“They (his players) asked what was going on, they were disappointed. This loss shook us all, but I had such a close relationship with Diogo that I shook me even more.”

Recalling Jota’s ascension to Pacos’ first team, Campos added:

“I remember his smile, his intelligence on the field and his tireless dedication to reaching the top. Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota got where he went through a lot of work and effort.”

“It’s a beautiful family and this loss is impossible to accept. It’s a big deal to talk about this. I want to express my deep sympathy for the whole family.”
