USCG Offroad 2,220 pounds of cocaine, 3,320 pounds of marijuana in Miami

The US Coast Guard (USCG) says it has intercepted more than $20 million in cocaine and marijuana from drug traffickers.

About 2,220 pounds of cocaine and 3,320 pounds of marijuana were offloaded Wednesday at Coast Guard base Miami Beach, according to the USCG.

“It’s a team effort to stop harmful and illegal drugs from reaching our shores and entering our community,” CMDR. Brian Gismarvik, commander of the Coast Guard Cutter Northland, said in a statement.

“In a dynamic maritime environment, the joint efforts of DOD, DHS and international partners are required to combat cross-border criminal organizations,” he concluded.

According to USCG, the enormous amount was the sum of four separate encounters in the Caribbean. It was an international effort, with participation from the Royal Navy of the Canadian Navy and Royal Dutch Navy ships and with the US Navy.
