Crawford vs Roy Jones Jr. Canelo: Why Running is “Silly” for Bad on September 13th
Roy Jones Jr. says Terrence Crawford can’t afford to run for Canelo Alvarez.
Jones Jr. hopes Crawford (41-0, 31 Kos) will stand up and fight against indisputable super middleweight champion Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) from round one to show his strength. Roy hasn’t said what Plan B is for Crawford if he can’t handle Canelo’s powers.
Why is running “silly”?
“You’re totally wrong. The first thing is, how do you move and run from Canelo? You’re going to give him everything he wants. That’s stupid.” SECONDOUT When Terence Crawford was asked on September 13th if he should use the move to eliminate Canelo Alvarez all night.
Spence fights abnormalities
Crawford is going to move as he did it throughout his career. The only battle he didn’t run was when he fought against the heavy-emission, inactive Errol Spence Jr., who was created in a car accident in 2023. To him, Crawford didn’t have to do that as he looked like a drained, slow, half-day zombie that night.
Terence cannot do that to Canelo. Because he is not the equivalent of a ghoul that night. He is strong and vigilant, looking to drill holes through Crawford.
“If you run away from the big man, you give him all the confidence he wants.” Ah, all I have to do is catch him. He’s running now. He doesn’t want to fight. No, you didn’t go there with that mentality.
There is a big difference between Roy Jones Jr., who fought then-WBA heavyweight champion John Lewis in 2003, and Crawford, who essentially raised three weight classes to challenge a strong Canelo for the incontroversial super middleweight championship.
Lewis was not a puncher. He was a clincher and was considered the weakest link among the champions of his time. Roy Jr. knew what he was doing and chose him over the other three champions. It was his cherry pick.
The early rounds are important
“Listen, I’m coming here. I’m going to tilt the scale as a heavyweight. And I’m going to make you feel like I’m heavyweight in the first round. Budd has to do the same,” Jones Jr. said.
So, if Jones Jr. took on these two heavyweights in 2003, would have chosen to confuse them earlier?
– Lennox Lewis: WBC
– Corey Sanders: WBO
Had Roy been fighting aggressively in the first round he would have been knocked out. So it’s no use to give Crawford advice that he probably didn’t follow in his career. Jones Jr. would never have fought that way if he had the best fight, not the weakest link.
“He has to tilt the scale at 168 pounds. When he hits the ring, he has to make him feel like a 168 pound gun. If you don’t do that early on, you’re having problems now,” Jones Jr. said.
Turki Aralsif’s expectations
If Crawford chooses to brawl with Canelo from round one, it’s great that he’s said to be $50 million, as he’s paid a lot from Turchiaralsik. If Crawford gets engaged rather than running, as Crawford did in his final battle with Isler Madrimov, it would put a smile on Torki’s face. It was a boring chess game.
