200 Marines deployed in Florida to support Ice immigration enforcement

The US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) is sending approximately 200 Marines to Florida to support the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) internal immigration enforcement mission.
Marines, obsessed with the Marine Corps Wing Support Squadron 272, Marines, New River, and New River, are responding as part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Defense Secretary Sean Parnell requested backup to assist U.S. immigration and customs enforcement in Florida, Louisiana and Texas with critical administrative and logistical capabilities at the locations directed by Ice.

Parnell approved a total of 700 mobilization to include activities, the National Guard and reserve forces. Marines are in the first wave of Usnorthcom’s support.
“Service members participating in this mission will fulfill strictly illegal enforcement obligations within ice facilities, whose role is specifically prohibited from direct contact with ice custody individuals or engagement in any aspect of the custody chain,” USNORTHCOM announced.
Parnell said in a statement that the assistance eases some of the unnecessary tensions with law enforcement.

“This support provides important resources to support ICE’s mission and unlocks law enforcement officials with a focus on law enforcement tasks and missions. The department remains committed to ensuring operational management of 100% of the border,” the statement said.
