“The hope is that he will be deported and served his sentence in Mexico,” Sinbaum said during a daily news briefing on Friday, referring to the charges Chavez faces for arms and drug trafficking.
The 39-year-old boxer was greeted by numerous federal agents on Wednesday while riding a scooter in front of a home living in Studio City’s upscale Los Angeles area near Hollywood, according to his lawyer, Michael Goldstein.

On January 22, 2012, the California High Wie Patrol arrested Chavez and accused him of driving without a DUI alcohol/drug and license. On June 23, 2012, California Superior Court in Los Angeles County was found 13 days in prison and 36 months of probation, convicted of Chavez of driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the DHS, in December 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Agency introduced Chavez to the ice as a “severe public safety threat,” but he was allowed to re-enter the country on January 4, 2025 after the Biden administration showed that he was not prioritized immigration enforcement.
