Oscar de la Hoya predicts Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda is upset
Oscar de la Jolla says the high production, pressure and body punches made by William Zepeda are too much for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson to withstand.
Zepeda’s Pressure: Stevenson’s Downfall?
De La Holla points out that Stephenson (23-0, 11 Kos) has a fighting style like Mayweather. He considers Zepeda (33-0, 27 Kos) to be similar to Jose Luis Castillo, the fighter who gave him the main mayweather that fit his pressure in two fights. Many believe Castillo deserves to win the first one, but they lost.
Oscar believes that the key to defeating Shakur’s Mayweather-esque style is to target pressure, non-stop punches and body. Stevenson runs, but he can’t do it all night without being forced to fight without being locked up at times.
Shakur is a slower version of Mayweather, taking the speed of his hand and his movements reduced by 50%. He punches about half the speed of Floyd, but is not known for his speed. That’s Shakur’s accuracy. This will be his first true test of his career. Because he has never fought anyone in any of the weight classes he fought, including lightweight.
“Shakur Stevenson, what kind of fighter is he? He’s like Floyd Mayweather. He knows the box box, has beautiful footwork and stands up straight. Millcity Boxinganalysis of the battle between Shakur vs William Zepeda.
Shakur is Mayweather’s poor version. He’s not in the same league in any division of Floyd, who played second round with Castillo. Stevenson’s main defense is his step back in three stages. He moves out of range of his own landing ability as well as his enemies.
Breaking the “money” style
“What do you think? Floyd Mayweather (should) was defeated by Jose Luis Castillo, who reminds him of William Zepeda but throws more punches,” de la Jolla said. “Think about this. Floyd had a fragile hand. Shakur Stephenson has a fragile hand. William Zepeda keeps moving forward, throws punches, and keeps on his head being very careful of left and right movements, and keeps throwing that jab.”
Shakur needs to throw a lot of headshots to keep him down Zepeda. Because it’s not enough to tap and run. He throws a lot of shots and hopes he can hurt him.
“This shell here can’t block jabs. Throw it to your body, throw it to your chest. Pin him to the corner and keep throwing punches into the bundle. William Zepeda has probably the best output for boxing,” said De La Hoya.
“So I either got William Zepeda by decision or even gave him a stop against Shakur Stephenson. I love Shakur Stephenson.
