Devin Haney, Brian Norman Jr.

Devin Haney and WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. met today in New York City. Haney (32-0, 15 Kos) and Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 Kos) expanded sizes from each other ahead of the November 22 battle at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.

I found there was no difference in size between them. That’s not surprising, as Devin tends to stay hydrated in the 160s and he’s not fighting. So he’ll have a certain size for him. The difference is that Haney’s size doesn’t lead to more power.

Bill Haney’s level of trust

“You don’t look too big. You look small,” Bill Haney said of Norman Jr.

Norman Jr. can still punch like a cow, and if he lands one of the bricks on November 22nd, Bill should not be too confident because he is a Clintonite for his son. Devin looked like an example from Jerry’s textbook in his final battle with Jose Ramirez last May. After the event, Turki Aralsif issued his No Tom and Jerry Battle Order.

“We train for the best Devin Haney Pre-Ryan Garcia and Post-Ryan Garcia,” said Brian Norman Sr. fighthype About his son, Brian Norman Jr.’s battle with Honey in November. “We’re looking at all his fights and studying what he can and can’t. In my opinion, he doesn’t have the best Brian Norman Jr. counter.”

For these reasons, the best honey is no longer present:

  1. It’s not 135 anymore. Without the huge size advantage Devin had while fighting in lightweight, he’s another guy in Welterweight. The advantage of that size was key to his success in its weight class.
  2. Still plagued by losses to Ryan Garcia
  3. 147 power is short.

“I think what Devin did in his final fight is that it was a bit too much so that you can feel like you’re running,” Norman Sr. said.

Devin escapes on Saturday by running with William Zepeda all night, and gains confidence, allowing him to move, hug, and fight in a stiff and charming way. If Turki doesn’t do much, Haney would like to casually run the content of his mind towards Norman Jr. He forces him into the role of “Tom.”

Norman Senior warns Haney

“I think he has a better game plan than running. He’s already seen Turki not like it, and fans don’t like it. It’s not going well anyway.” Norman Sr. said

Haney is still going to run as he’s caught up in the same situation he was in when he fought Ryan Garcia last year and he’s not planning on getting up and fighting. He ran through Rutler and survived in 12 rounds from the stands, and was wiped out by Norman Jr.
