NFL: Super Bowl LIX Preview: Eagles Vs. Chief
On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs of Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This is the second mark the Chiefs and Eagles faced in the Super Bowl. The two played previously in the NFL Championship Game in 2023. KC defeated Philadelli in that 38-35 to secure the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.
Kansas City is aiming to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls. But they have to defeat the Eagles first. The Eagles won 15 of their last 16 games.
Watch the Super Bowl and predict who will win at a spot in the chronicles of Immortality and NFL history.
Super Bowl LIX
Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs
This is not the first rematch between KC and Philadelphia since Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles and Chiefs were actually facing each other in the 11th week of the 2023-24 season in a Monday night soccer game in Kansas City. Philadelphia gathered from a 17-7 halftime deficit to beat the Chiefs 21-17.
Philadelphia was to win the contest for several different reasons. First, they kept KC in two red zone conversions on four attempts. More importantly, the Eagles won a 2-1 sales battle.
We hope that some of that game will be replicated at this weekend’s Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes, for example, was the Chiefs’ second leading rusher with 38 yards on six carries. I think he will again be KC’s second most effective rusher this time. After all, he rushed over Kansas City to finish second this postseason, and only averaged 15 yards in the playoffs to run Isaiah Pacheco. Philadelphia also ran more balls than they threw it in that game.
The contest also had several warning stories. Patrick Mahomes attempted 43 passes in those 11 matches. He’s only done four times this season, so we can almost guarantee he won’t try more than 40 passes on Sunday. And he doesn’t expect Eagles quarterback Jalen to run the ball more than 10 times. Even if his knees are perfectly healthy, it makes much more sense to run Saquon Berkley and move him.
With Philadelphia’s offensive line heading straight against Kansas City’s defensive line, one matchup that will go a long way in determining who won this game will come to Trench. I think Philadelphia has the advantage over KC when running the ball. The Chiefs allow 148 rushing yards per game, while the Eagles average 227.7 yards on the ground. I’m sure Philadelphia can demonstrate his will in a rushed attack.
Pass protection is where this can be a toss-up. The Eagles allowed the quarterback to be fired 11 times in the postseason (second). That’s bad news when we realise that Kansas City is tied to the sack second recorded in the playoffs (10). As mentioned in other articles, I think some of the problems with pass blocking in Philadelphia were exacerbated by a knee injury that Jalen injured. Still, they’re worried about KC’s pass-rushing ability, as Philadelphia allowed most sacks in the league during the regular season. If Philadelphia fires Jalen’s pain seven times during the divisional round of the playoffs, KC will win the Super Bowl for the third consecutive time.
The Chiefs formula for success is much easier than Philadelphia. First of all, they need to force Jalen Health to throw a lot of the ball. With just two losses this season that hurt, he tried at least 30 passes in both games. Also, KC will need to take away the deep threat of the passing game as Hurts took place under 200 yards in both of these matchups. Given that he averages only 168.3 yards per game in the postseason, it should be easy to hold him under 200 passing yards.
Another thing Kansas City needs is that Patrick Mahomes will be sensational. It was a statistically down year for the three Super Bowl MVPs. 245.5 passing yards per game during the regular season was the lowest of his eight-year career. He’s gotten even worse in the postseason, averaging 211 yards per game in two contests. The difference is that Mahome gets things done with his feet. After averaging under 20 yards per game during the regular season and scoring two ground touchdowns, he has been rushing TDs per game in the playoffs at up to 28.5 yards. Mahomes has to make things happen in both the air and the ground, in order for KC to win.
Interestingly, I think so The Eagles are a better team. They excel along the running backs, wide receivers, linebackers, cornerbacks and offensive lines. The problem is: A better team doesn’t always win the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers were an all-around team that was better than the Kansas City Chiefs last year, but still lost the Super Bowl due to coaching, mental mistakes and injuries.
2024-25 The Kansas City Chiefs consider the most won team in the NFL. They may not have the best roster or they may not be able to make the best stats each week, but not particularly in the Super Bowl and I can’t make a good conscious choice against them !
Chiefs have shown again and again that they are the perfect fit for these moments. Even if Philadelphia is a better team, I think Kansas City will win the Super Bowl. The team was built to win this type of game.
If the Eagles were to beat KC, I would be happy to admit that I was wrong. But I choose the Chief every time until I see it with my own eyes.
Kansas City runs down the field in less than five minutes into the game, kicking the winning field goal in the match to win the third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
