Billy Joel reveals his heartbreak over divorce from Christie Brinkley

Billy Joel said his second wife was “devastated.” Christy Linkley He left him during his nine-year marriage, divorced in 1994.

“I realized that love is not concrete,” the Uptown Girl singer told the producer in the second part of his documentary, “Bill Joel: And It Goes.” He said, “You know, you feel that’s true, but you eat it and eventually catch up with it all. It’s difficult. And I’ve been so devastated.”

Clearly emotional, Brinkley said she tried it.

Christie Brinkley recounts a devastating personal moment of “it almost broke her.”

“I wanted it to work. I knew how lucky I was, I had music and stuff, but that didn’t work,” she explained.

The former couple met at St. Barts in 1983. They married in 1985 and soon had only a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel.

“Our relationships went from a lot of fun to a job that consumes him to his job where he really enjoys each other. If I were to go on the road, the rewind period after the show continues late at night is like ‘what are you doing here?’,” Brinkley said. “And I was just starting to get worse, ‘I don’t even know what to do, but I, and Alexa alone cannot be lonely in this big old house, which was supposed to be full of life, love, music and laughter.’ ”

Joel said it was a struggle for him as they were newly married and had a young daughter, but he was on the road a lot.

“I realized that love is not specific. You know, you feel that way, but you eat it and in the end you’re catching up all of it. It’s difficult. And I’ve been so devastated.”

“I had a relationship with people I cared deeply about, but I couldn’t be home,” he said. “I couldn’t be with my family. It was a very sad time for me.”

The 76-year-old says he thinks his daughter knew him, and Brinkley is planning to split up.

“And that’s very traumatic,” he said.

Joel’s own parents were the same age as when he divorced when he was eight years old and when he and Brinkley divorced in 1994, but Joel’s father left after the divorce and did not see him again until he was in his twenties.

“She needed to know I was always there,” the “Piano Man” singer says of his own daughter, now 39 years old.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that he’s been drinking quite badly and he really didn’t remember what he did when he was drinking, so he really didn’t know how he could hurt people,” Brinkley added.

She said he would pretend to be asleep when he got drunk in their bedroom.

Holding her tears she replied, “One night we had an argument and said, “I really can’t go and get this. I’m about to bring Alexa back to New York and leave.”

“True love doesn’t always float in clouds and ecstasy,” Joel told the producer about the lyrics, “And that’s going.”

“Most of that is pain.”

Joel continued to marry famous chef Katie Lee in 2004. They divorced five years later, and he married his current wife. Alexis Roderick2015. They share two daughters. Before her marriage to Brinkley, Joel was married to Elizabeth Small from 1973 to 1983.
