I can’t stop recommending this window AC to anyone struggling to survive the heat wave of summer

Important points of CNET

  • Windmill AC usually costs $349 for 6,000 BTU, but you can often find it on sale Windmill’s website Or Amazon or Home Depot.
  • Not only is the easiest unit I’ve ever installed, but the only AC unit I’ve tried, keeping my elderly, uninsulated home cool during heat waves.
  • Bonus: It’s actually stylish. But I would still be paying for the ugly thing that worked.
  • Its normal price is higher than several other window AC units, but similar specifications paid the same or even more for units with similar specifications.

I’m a sucker in an old house. My current rental – a 100-year-old row house with original Art Deco tiles from the 1920s – captivated me with its characters and tall ceilings. But it also comes with a tough trade-off. It has low insulation and no central air conditioning. and Record-breaking heat waves It hits regularly in my area and I needed a window AC to get to the task.

For years I bought and tested a new window Air conditioner It’s just to be frustrated with how poor they worked every summer. They will be sold at the end of the season and resume the cycle again the next spring.

After years of sweating slowly through three digits of temperature and overwhelming humidity, I finally found it: Windmill Whispertech window air conditioner. This innovative powerhouse was so effective at cooling my oversized master bedroom that I ended up buying two more. These three AC units effectively cool my 2,500 square feet of Philadelphia row home A violent heat wave. And they look great while doing it.

Home Technology and Appliance prices It’s been rising recently. Windmill AC is not the cheapest option available, but for me it was worth every cent. If you’re tired of indoor temperatures, this is why you can’t stop talking about AC that will change the game.

My experience with Windmill Air Condyser

I was skeptical about that Windmill window air conditioner When it first arrived. It was lighter than the other units I tried (I could pick them up myself), which left me in panic. I didn’t think this would have a way to cool a 350 plus square foot bedroom facing south.

But within a few minutes my partner and I installed and ran the unit. Just a few hours later, our bedroom felt like a sauna and fell to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a feat that did not occur in previous ACS. Humidity, which often rose above 65% on humidity days, also fell below 50%. I was equally impressed with how well I was maintaining the set temperature. Especially during a severe heat wave.

The next day I ordered a second unit at the other end of the house.

Notes: CNET conducts scientific tests Window ACS At the Louisville Test Lab. We’ll be testing the Windmill AC unit this summer to see how quickly it can cool a heated 92-degree Fahrenheit room and if it can maintain 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is the difference between Windmill AC?

The Windmill Air Condyers have some unique features, but what’s now adding one to your cart was the unit’s cooling design. The windmill ACS pushes cool air out of the top of the unit at a 45 degree angle for better cooling. After trying out some big name window ACSs that pushed air horizontally, I was excited that this feature actually cooled down a two-storey room with a tall ceiling. The air seemed to circulate better as the unit pushed up the cold air rather than the outside.

No more hiding ugly AC units

As long as you keep your home cool, you’ll handle ugly air conditioners. But I’m glad there’s no need to. Windmill air conditioner There is a refined minimal design that many of my friends and family have commented on. The unit has an attractive front panel design that hides the air filter, with small buttons that are almost hidden at the top of the panel.

The LED display light automatically dims, so you don’t have to worry about visual confusion at night. It also comes with side panel covers that provide additional insulation and a seamless look.

Windmill is also available Colorful magnetic panel front If you’re interested in such a thing, to add something whim to your window.

It’s the quietest AC I’ve ever owned

That wasn’t the main selling point for me, but I’m now a huge fan of Windmill’s Whispertech’s quiet cooling technology. My top priority was the air conditioning that made my home feel comfortable. I just thought it had some noise. Spec lists it as 42 decibels – Softer than the average household refrigerator. After regular use of the two for almost three years, the windmill unit was comfortable and quiet.

My partner and I can watch TV on a normal volume, discuss each other from the other edges of the house, jumping at work calls without the noise bothering us. I actually enjoy the white noise effect that I offer in my bedroom at night.

Running noise can be a distraction when making a call while working, but it will happen in AC as my window is right next to my desk. This usually only happens in high or medium cases, so simply switch to low or eco mode to resolve this issue.

You can install it in a few minutes (really)

I installed these three units in multiple homes and windows, but it only takes 5-10 minutes to set up. This is because this unit is preassembled. Do not screw the panels or screw brackets onto the base before installation.

All you have to do is add a window form to the side of the window, set the unit in the window pane, expand the side panels, close the window and then secure it with screws. If you can’t drill holes in the windows, or if you don’t want to rent them (like me), you can secure them to blocks of wood.

I usually have my partner help me install this (one of us lifts and the other opens a window and lowers), but I’ve installed it myself in the past.

Comes with smart app and voice control

Windmill sends remote controls via window AC, but if you have multiple units to control, we highly recommend using Windmill’s smart app. It only takes a few minutes to install and register your device (it sends you a QR code that you can use to make setup even easier).

Windmill App

The Windmill app allows you to easily control the settings of multiple window air conditioners in one location.

The app is easy to use and is useful if you forget to adjust the temperature before leaving the house and going. However, sometimes it shows the wrong temperature. I had an issue with the Office AC temperature in the app that appears as 61 degrees when it was obviously not, but a quick reset on AC solved that.

Similar to a Smart Thermostatyou can create automations to reduce temperature, speed up, speed up, shut down the unit at a certain time. If you want to raise the temperature while working or away on the weekend, it’s a great tool.

I don’t use voice control with Alexa functionality, but if you’re interested in it, it’s Easy to set up.

Eco mode keeps my energy bill low

Because there is gas heat, Electricity bills tend to rise In the summer when I’m running AC. That’s still true, but I don’t worry about the big energy bill surge any more. Windmill’s Eco-Mode helps keep my room cool without causing surprising electricity bills.

Windmill air conditioners are energy star rated and have a maximum energy efficiency ratio of up to 15. To earn an Energy Star rating, your air conditioner requires a CEER rating of 12 or higher.

Solve the storage dilemma

We are fortunate to have a basement where you can store your air conditioner when you are not using it. However, if you don’t have a closet or garage to accommodate these units during the winter, the windmills sell it Winter cover It protects your unit, keeps your home insulated, and adds a pop of color to your windows (if you choose).

I like this idea, but the current options are fairly limited and I personally don’t love the colour scheme they offer.

CNET Buying Advice

I recommend Windmill window air conditioners to everyone who knows who is looking for them. My experience with the three units I own was nothing more than positive. They outweigh the GE and Midea air conditioners I’ve tried in the past and work well to keep my damp queue home cool and comfortable.

The biggest drawback of Windmill air conditioners is their price. Costs are comparable to competitors like July (yes, they are AC companies named after one of the hottest months of the year) and MIDEA can find more affordable options. Paying $630 for a 12,000 BTU window air conditioner is a sudden price, but you can often find it during sales Windmill’s website Or Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, PC Richards and Costco.

If your Windmill AC is not within your budget, don’t borrow and buy it. Instead, the GE 5,000 BTU mechanical window air conditioner, CNET’s best budget pick, GE AHEC05AC Window AC Approximately $160-170.
