ESPN Analysts Discuss the decisions behind the on-air prayer for Damar Hamlin

“I heard Buffalo Bills The organization says, “We believe in prayer.” And while this may not be the right thing to do, it is on my heart and I now want to pray for Damal Hamlin. I’m going to do it loudly. I’m going to close my eyes and bow my head, and I’ll just pray for him,” Orlovsky said.
“God, we come to you in these moments we don’t understand because we believe that it will affect you when you come to God and pray to you. We are angry. We want an answer.

Orlovsky admitted “Awful Announcement” podcast “It was uncomfortable,” he thought about whether to do it or not, knowing that prayers were not “for anyone.”
“Everyone keeps saying, ‘Thinking and praying, thoughts and praying, thoughts and prayer.’ And I told myself, “I thought someone should actually pray for Damar – as if they actually pray for him – not saying thoughts or prayers.” I began to feel this in my mind.
After going back and forth between himself and his colleagues, he said a TV prayer, and the “99.999999%” of the reaction was positive.
“Did I get emails here and there or text messages here and there from people who said they weren’t for their tea and not for them? Of course I did,” Orlovsky said. “But overwhelmingly, I think a lot of people are just connected, and that resonated with (them).”

Orlovsky also said he got a “overwhelmingly positive” response from his company.
“Again, there were no negative (feedback) or pushbacks.

Hamlin was in the hospital for about a week and was able to cooperate with the Bills’ first game in the 2024 season, and he has been the mainstay of their defense ever since.
