QI2 Wireless Charging: Everything You Need to Know (2025)

Other improvements that QI2 brings QI include wide range of device compatibility (from tablets to wearables), adaptive charging, and the charger communicates with the device to provide the necessary power instead of having a fixed output, and better thermal management and foreign object detection for greater safety.

QI2 What is 25W?

The first major update to the QI2 standard is QI2.2.1, with WPC branding as QI2 25W. It does nothing to clarify the wireless charging scene, but it is set up to allow for many improvements.

  • Faster charging speeds up to 50 wattsalthough 25 watts seem to be the norm for now.
  • Improved magnetic alignmentso the phone can charge with maximum efficiency and speed, and various devices are compatible with all QI2 25W accessories.
  • Backward compatibilityi.e., the QI2 25W device works with QI2 and QI chargers despite its slow speed.

WPC says 14 products have been certified so far. 3-in-1 chargerpower bank, and Car MountAnker, Aukey, Baseus, Belkin, Ugreen, and Scosche, there are hundreds more in the certification queue. Most interestingly, WPC states: “In addition to the Apple iPhone, major Android smartphones will be joining the QI2 ecosystem for the first time with this launch.” However, we still don’t know which iPhone model or it refers to.

Complete list of QI2 phones

Sadly, there aren’t many QI2 certified mobile phones yet. Here is the complete list:

Complete list of QI2-enabled mobile phones

QI2-compatible mobile phones can charge at QI2 speeds, but due to the lack of magnetic arrays, they must be combined with a QI2-compatible case with a magnet to function as a QI2-compatible mobile phone. Here is the list:

Expect delayed waves of QI2 devices

Before the device supports the QI2 or QI2 25W logo, the wireless power consortium must prove it in an independent lab. The MPP QI2 specifications include charging rate, magnetic strength, and device compatibility. The QI2 logo promises that your device meets the strict standards of WPC. However, as with the original QI standard, some devices have not passed the official QI2 certification process.

Apple’s iPhone 12-16 range supports Qi2 and has been released by accessory manufacturers such as Anker, Belkin, Nomad, Mophie, Baseus and more QI2 Wireless Charger and Power Bank. You can expect the QI2 25W accessories and waves of phones to unfold next. Also, some Android manufacturers are hoping to jump completely later this year or early 2026. Since phones are usually a two-year lead time, it could explain the delay in QI2 adoption. WPC hopes that QI2 integrates wireless charging and ultimately provides the universal global standard we’ve been waiting for, but we’re no longer that optimistic.
