Everton is “not ready” for the new Premier League season, Moe says

David Moet admitted that Everton is “not ready to start the Premier League season.”

Moyes repeatedly highlighted Toffees’ slow transfer window as a reason for concern, calling for an emergency once again after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the summer series held in Chicago.

Idrissa Gana Gueye put the Moyes man forward, but a mistake from new goalkeeper Mark Travers allowed Lucas Paqueta to replace Niclas Fullkrug with the winner of Hammers midway through the second half.

Moe has no interest in the outcome — or a loss to Bournemouth and Blackburn, and a draw with Ashington that precedes it — but he is increasingly irritated by the lack of progress in recruiting players.

Everton has signed four players so far this summer – Travers, midfielder Charlie Alcaraz, striker Tiano Barry, and Left Back Adam Azune – But Moyes wants at least five.

He said:

“I’m not overly worried (by the outcome) because I don’t have the players I need and what I want.

“And obviously, we’ve been against it from the start. We knew we’d really stand up to it before we came (to the US). So we never came here and won (the game).

“I think offensive play at this point is really poor. I don’t think we’ve created enough opportunities anywhere.

“I think the way we play in that area of the pitch at the moment is really below par, but we’ve made the individual mistakes that have shown that.

“Tonight is outstanding and a few goalkeeping mistakes. I made a few mistakes against Bournemouth over the weekend.”

Everton’s next clash with Moe’s former Manchester United in Atlanta on Sunday.

By then, Scott hopes to strengthen the team he believes is lacking in numbers.

He added: “Now there’s a bigger turnover of players in the club. They were saying, ‘Hey, maybe three or four players, let’s sign the season.’

“But for the large teams and boys who aren’t in the game, they want to go. You notice that there is a bigger revolving door for players. So many clubs will sign a figure that is much larger than what has been done in the past when you see it.

“We wanted players to come sooner, especially here (in the US). We knew it would be incredibly shorter.”

Moyes and Everton are no longer able to launch their Premier League campaign in Leeds, which was newly promoted on August 18th.
