This year, Yamal managed to become the youngest winner of the Ballon d’Or, after helping Barcelona claim his final term, scoring 18 goals and registering 21 assists in all competitions.

And while Laporta highlighted the talent of the teenage star, he quickly put a comparison to the Argentine captain in context.

“Lamin was Lamin Yamal and Lionel Messi was Lionel Messi,” Laporta told CNN.

“Messi is the best player in the world and I think Lamin is the best in the world in the present moment. But we have to watch.”

“Lamin has a lot of personality in him, like Messi did in his early days. Of course, Messi got it all. For me, he is probably the best player ever.

“He’s a small number of players because he plays at the highest level.”

“The world continues, new geniuses appear, and today’s new geniuses are players like Ramin Yamal, Pedri and Rafinha, who are extremely talented players in the world of football.”
