Manchester United v Everton: lineup, statistics, preview

Manchester United hopes to continue their promising preseason when they face Everton in Atlanta on Sunday, as they close out their Premier League summer series.

United won West Ham on Thursday by slashing Bournemouth 4-1 in Chicago, with comforting Mattis de Rigg reaching his goal with goals from Rasmus Hozilund, Patrick Dorgu, Amado Diallo and Ethan Williams.

Reuben Amorim’s side produced a dominant display as he passed the windy city of Cherry, urging him to acknowledge that the Portuguese head coach looks like a “different team” of teams that registered the club’s lowest points in 50 years in total in 50 years last season.

“It was a good game. We played with strength. We were offensive and that’s something we need to improve since last season,” Amorim said after the game.

“It was just a pre-season game, but the feeling with the same players is even a pre-season game. Looking at the same players playing now, it looks like a different team, and that’s a good sign.”

Amorim also seemed pleased with the team’s unity after the summer changes at Old Trafford. Brian Mbemo and Mash Cunha both arrived, but the appearances of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony are set to be offloaded before the transfer window is over.

Marcus Rashford has secured a loan move to Barcelona, but there has been growing speculation that United is in talks with striker Benjamin Sesco and RB Leipzig. Also reported as potential targets are Aston Villa and British striker Ollie Watkins.

Amorim said: “The outcome is more than the way they (the team) play. They’re playing better because they’re not just on the pitch, they’re not just on the pitch, they’re off the pitch, they’re playing better.

“They’re getting stronger. This moment is faster. Of course, it’s pre-season, but the intensity is completely different. You can see that the data from the minutes are completely different.

“We’re improving, but once again it’s a preseason game. The pressure will vary greatly during the season, but it’s important to understand that the same player can play another game.”

Meanwhile, Everton is aiming to win his first preseason victory following a recent defeat to former club West Ham of Bournemouth and manager David Moye.

The contrast of the outcome between the Toffee and the Red Devil on the pitch also appears to be reflected in their respective activities.

Moe, who lasted just 12 months as Ir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford in 2013 while United were flushing cash, admitted this week that he “drained” his time to make the impact Everton had hoped for in the transfer market.

Despite ambitious new owners and moving to new stadiums, a relatively small number of teams have been added so far this summer. The club has made Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move permanent, bringing in young left-back Adam Aznu from Bayern Munich and striker Tiano Barry from Villarreal as a possible replacement for the released Dominique Calvert Lewin.

However, the club reportedly rejected a £27 million bid for Southampton midfielder Tyler Diveling.

“One thing I do is tell the fans straight away. I’m saying it straight away. We’re having a bit of a struggle to get people in right away,” added Toffee boss.

Man Utd v Everton Team News

Sunday fixtures allowed us to see Amorim hold on to the expected United debut of Mbeumo.

The £71 million arrival from Brentford was not featured in either West Ham United or Bournemouth, but could be set up for his Red Devil Bow against Everton.

Cunha, who signed United’s other marquees so far this summer, could also return after a break against Andoni Iraola’s team.

“After an overwhelming return last season, he’s ready to fight for his place,” Hozilund claimed, and after a strong performance last time, he was able to lead the line again.

Andre Onana and Lisandro Martinez remain on the sidelines with injuries.

For Everton, Jarad Branthawaite remains a major absentee, with the centre-back missing the tour due to injury.

Moyes could make changes to the side that began a conflict with West Ham. Barry could be on top as it was used from the bench against the hammer.
