Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City Mayor, was identified as “black or African American” in a 2009 Columbia University application. The New York Times reported Thursday. Mamdani, a senior at the time in high school, also checked out “Asians” and reportedly wrote about it in “Ugandan” for additional background. Despite his father being a professor at an elite school, he was ultimately unaccepted by Colombia. He was not a US citizen at the time.

Mamdani told The Times, which identifies as “American born in Africa,” that checking multiple boxes is an effort to reflect his “complex background” and that he will not gain an advantage in the competitive admissions process.

However, Adams denounced Mamdani’s actions as “shaming against all students who entered university in the right way.”

“African American identity is not a handy checkbox,” Adams said. “It’s history, struggle, and living experiences. It’s deeply uncomfortable to misuse it for personal gain.”

Cuomo Campaign spokesman Rich Azzopardi repeated the call from Adams Camp.

“This would not be as surprising as Mamdani (his proposal, his funds, and his background) had not been scrutinized at all,” Atzpaldi said. “If that’s the case, this issue needs to be thoroughly investigated as it could be a scam and the tip of the iceberg.”

Adams runs as an independent elected Democrat in late 2021, but Cuomo has weighed out an independent route to Gracie Mansion, losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary.

Meanwhile, Sliwa is on a high path and sees the controversy that only helps Mamdani’s cause as a political distraction.

“He’s been attacked as a Muslim and he’s been laughed at in the video about how he eats. Stop that. You’re infuriating people who otherwise might oppose him on the issue. You’re promoting his support.”

Mamdani’s victory caused a political earthquake in the Big Apple, causing fear to moderates, independents, conservatives and even some Democrats. Socialist Policy It can have devastating and long-term consequences for global financial capital. Mamdani ran on a platform that included progressive and socialist economic policies in line with Democrats, including $30 minimum wage, raising businesses and rich taxes, and imposing a freeze on urban-owned grocery stores and a stabilized rent for residents.

Swawa warned critics that he was giving critics a political gift to Mamdani.

“Even those who don’t agree with him on the matter will gather in his defense if they think the attack is unfair or above,” Swa added. “Let’s go back to the question of a clear difference between how Zohran Mamdani wants to run the city and how he wants to run the city.

The Adams Campaign is asking Columbia University to publish its 2009 admissions records for 2009, to clarify whether his non-civil status influenced his admission or financial aid decision, and to conduct a formal review to determine whether the university’s policies were violated.

“We need an answer,” said Todd Shapiro, a spokesman for Adams. “Because New Yorkers deserve to know if the man who wants to vote has built his career on a presumably illicit foundation.”

Fox News Digital contacted the Mamdani campaign about the controversy and his opponent taking it on, but did not receive an immediate response.
