After over 400 appearances, the legend of Real Madrid sets out


Real Madrid confirmed that Lucas Vazquez will leave the club this summer with a ceremony to celebrate his career at the Santiago Bernabeu, scheduled for tomorrow.

The winger-turned-fullback has appeared in Madrid 402 times over 18 years and was a nameless hero for many of their successes.

The 34-year-old sets off with an incredible trophy collection after winning 23 titles.

What’s next for Vazquez?

Vazquez’s next destination is unknown – he may retire – but he is grateful for his time spent in the Spanish capital.

The Galician wrote on Instagram: “It’s been nearly 20 years since I arrived at Valdevebas as a 16-year-old full of dreams and excitement about wearing this shirt. Every step along the way was a gift.

“We lived together an unforgettable night, celebrated 23 titles and created memories of being with me forever. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank the president, board of directors, staff, coaches, teammates and more than anything else.

“Today, after more than 400 matches, it’s time to say goodbye to the club of my life. But I leave with peace of mind knowing that I gave it all. I always knew the responsibility and privilege of wearing this badge. I enjoy every match, training, training and travel.

“I may leave Real Madrid, but Real Madrid will never leave me. Wherever I go, I proudly say I will celebrate playing for the best club in the world, and I am grateful to be part of the most beautiful journey of my life.

Perez leaves Vazquez

Madrid President Florentino Perez paid tribute to players who joined the club in 2007 and passed the ranks.

Perez said: “Lucas Vazquez is an example of the values of Real Madrid.

“The appearance of Lucas Vazquez represents the spirit of hard work, patience, humility and victory that is essential to the success of this shirt. He is a player who has love and recognition for all Madridistas. Real Madrid will always be his home.”
