How air taxi services work
Shooter United’s plans will use existing helipads in East 34th Street, West 30th Street and Lower Manhattan to launch Archer’s all-electric midnight aircraft with space for four passengers and one pilot.
From there, passengers are driven away Major airports such as JFK, Laguardia, Newark, and regional airports such as Westchester County, Teterboro, and Republic. The idea is that passengers book these air taxi trips as “add-ons” to existing flights and create a seamless travel experience.
The exact pricing has not been revealed yet, but it should be noted that riding a one-way helicopter from Manhattan to JFK on the blade typically costs around $265 per seat. When you can expect to jump on an Archer Air taxi in New York, it’s still in the air, but Archer says the aircraft will make its commercial debut in Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics.

So, what makes the Midnight Waist so special? First of all, it is all-electric and ranges up to 100 miles with speeds up to 150 mph. Midnight is designed to take off and land vertically like a helicopter, but transition to forward flight like an airplane.
The aircraft is designed with 12 engines and propellers, providing redundancy for safety and aiming to match commercial airliner standards. Compared to traditional helicopters, it is a quiet, environmentally friendly alternative to urban air mobility at midnight due to its low noise and low emissions.

Infrastructure and partnerships
To make this vision a reality, Archer will use existing aviation infrastructure and work with partners such as Atlantic Aviation, Signature Aviation, Skyports/GroupEADP to develop and electrify verticals at local airports and helipads. The New York City Economic Development Corporation is also working with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to ensure that services are integrated smoothly into the city’s existing transportation network.

What’s next?
Before booking your first Archer Air Taxi, Midnight must obtain type certification from the FAA. This means that the aircraft meets all design and safety standards. The company has previously been certified part 135 and 145 for on-demand service and professional repair.

Race to the sky
Archer is not the only player in the Air Taxi game. Companies like Joby AviationBorocopter and beta technology are also developing Evtol Air Taxi Networks. But not everyone is successful. German company Lilium has recently faced financial difficulties. Archer is distinguished by major orders and partnerships, including a $1 billion order from United Airlines and a $500 million contract with Japan Airlines’ joint venture.
